If anyone in my house was awake right now, this blog post would have a pic of ME doing a headstand. But alas, they are asleep. So, you guys get more stock photos! :)

I'm only weeks into my yoga practice but I am loving it and feeling stronger with every hour I put into it.

This weekend, I attended a 2-hour inversion/arm balance class held at PowerFlow Yoga by two amazing yogis.  It was not at all what I expected.  The class was more relaxed than a regular yoga session.  The instructors had a ton of energy as usual, but the energy in the room was less serious.  It was fun and conducive to learning.  With the teachers giving guidance and the students asking questions, it was quite noisy.  It was refreshing because as a new student, you can struggle through poses hoping that you're doing them correctly. You don't typically stop to ask your instructor in the middle of class for some pointers.  And usually, you're moving so quickly through poses that you're not spending a ton of time practicing over and over until you get it right.

So yesterday, I truly enjoyed my time in the studio.  Not only did it give me time to concentrate my efforts on a single move, but I had the chance to watch the experts break it down, provide detailed instruction and give invaluable tips.  So now, I know how to do these moves the way they're intended to be done and I can practice them at home.

It's amazing how a simple adjustment can change your entire pose. I was up in a headstand in no time, supporting my whole body on my arms and head (not on a wall). I could've hung out like that for hours!
So get this... side crow! When I would see people do this in class I would think, "I will never be able to do that." But yesterday,  I did it! Even though I only held both feet off the floor for 2 seconds before I crashed on my face, I did it! I NEVER thought I'd be able to do that before.  It was because the instructors broke down the fundamentals of the move. I could see exactly where I have to place my hands, how I have to twist my body and balance my legs on my arm. We practiced it over and over and I finally got it! I was so excited and not embarrassed in the least when I fell. Ha!

I didn't realize how hard we worked yesterday until we got into Shavasana.  At that point, I was wiped and just let corpse pose take me over.  All I needed was a good pillow, a cozy blanket and I would've been there the rest of the night.

I can't wait until the Morristown studio re-opens (crossing my fingers that it's soon), but in the meantime, I'm going to practice this at home.  Of course, I showed my kids my headstand as soon as I walked in the door.  Today, my little guy was calling for me from the other room and he said "mom, where are you, doing headstands?"  That made me giggle!

There's another workshop coming up, Align and Refine Your Sun Salutations.  Check it out!

I have heard of these yoga workshops from another blogger (Nicole of www.masters2marathons.com), and it looks so helpful!
I wish I dedicated more time and effort into yoga. I have horrible flexibility and it probably could help in all aspects of my fitness!

Over the past few months, I've dedicated at least one day a week to Yoga. It's made a huge difference in my flexibility and strength. But like you, I don't always have a lot of time. It takes effort to get in your car, drive to a studio, take the class and then get home. So, I've downloaded a yoga video from iTUNES, Ali McGraw yoga. It's 40 minutes. I do it at home, at night and it's a great supplement to an actual class! This video is very basic but it's very good! Thanks for your comment:-)
